Fistulous Withers

FISTULOUS WITHERS (BRUCELLA ABORTUS)

KEY POINTS:

  • Natural Immunotherapy can be very effective for chronic inflammatory conditions complicated with infection
  • Improving cell mediated immunity can be an effective adjunctive therapy approach for difficult cases

Patient: 14 year old Quarter horse

History:
The owners of this horse have been battling fistulous withers for 3 YEARS!! Two other veterinarians have been unsuccessful at treating this horse. There was a large area of exudative dermatitis over the left supraspinitis area.

Therapy:
Traditional therapy includes complete dissection of the affected and surrounding tissues leading to prolonged recovery times and significant expense.

In this case, Dr. McClung decided to start therapy first with Transfer Factor Performance and Show. After 2 months of daily therapy the condition had completely resolved.

Attending Veterinarian: Dr. Bob McClung
