Newborn Primer Formula

For Small Ruminants

Protocols for Newborn Kids, Lambs, and Cria:

  • Administer one level teaspoon of the formula dissolved in water orally on days one and two.

Adult Primer Formula for Ruminants

Over eight weeks of age

Protocols for Lambs/Sheep, Kids/Goats, Cria/Alpacas:

Weaning: Administer 1 oz per head on Day 1 and Day 2 to ensure a smooth transition.

Breeding Ewes and Does: Provide 1 oz per head on Days 6 and 7. This protocol is essential when paired with a breeding flush to significantly improve conception rates.

Breeding Rams and Billies: Administer 1 oz per head on Day 1 and Day 2, followed by doses on Days 15, 30, 45, and 60. This regimen is crucial for maximizing performance prior to breeding.


Effective Treatments for Caseous Lymphadenitis (CL) in Goats and Sheep

  • For adult animals, administer 5 cc of Procaine Penicillin G per 100 pounds of body weight.
  • Ideal dosage: 1 to 2 ounces per head.
  • Recommended treatment schedule:
    • Day 1
    • Day 2
    • Day 3
    • Day 15
    • Day 30

This method effectively controls the CL problem within your herd.


Acute Infections: Mastitis in Goats and Sheep

For effective treatment of mastitis:

  • Administer 1 ounce per head on days 1, 2, and 3.
  • Give 5 ccs of Procaine Penicillin G per 100 pounds of body weight.
  • Condition: Blue bag (toxic and acute mastitis)
  • Recommended Dosage: Increase to 1 ounce per head
  • Duration: Administer for five days

This approach will also successfully clear up abscesses and respiratory infections.


Chlamydia Infection in Goats: Treatment Guidelines

  • Dosage: 1 oz per day per head for three consecutive days, followed by four days off. This can be repeated for up to 10 days.

Pregnancy Toxemia:

  • Dosage: 1 oz per head for three days for sheep and goats.

Footrot:

Dosage: 1 oz per head on the first and second day.


Contagious Ecthyma (Sore Mouth):

  • Dosage: 1 oz per head for three days, followed by four days off.

Malignant Sore Mouth:

  • Dosage: 2 oz per head per day for five days. After a week off, administer one day of treatment with each cycle. Also, administer seven cc of Procaine Penicillin G for every 100 lbs via subcutaneous injection.
