INTESTINAL LYMPHOSARCOMA KEY POINTS:

Patient: Ivan

Age/Sex/Breed: 7-year-old neutered male Borzoi

History:

Ivan had a prolonged history of weight loss and intestinal symptoms.

Diagnostics:

03/07/2007 – Abdominal ultrasound revealed an extraluminal mass at the iliocecal junction. Exploratory surgery demonstrated a transmural invasive mass tumor of the intestinal tract extending through the intestinal wall and involving the mesentery. Biopsies indicated a transmurally invasive lymphosarcoma. Liver biopsies also revealed multifocal extensive involvement, with lymphosarcoma replacing widespread hepatic architecture. In addition, the mesenteric lymph nodes exhibited moderate suppurative lymphadenitis with sinus histiocytosis and lymphoid hyperplasia.

Therapy:

The tumor was surgically removed on 03/07/2007, and Ivan began chemotherapy along with the administration of Veterinary Immune Tabs as adjuvant therapy. In March of 2007, Ivan weighed 67 lbs and exhibited severe lethargy, depressed affect, difficulty walking, depressed appetite, and signs of pain.

Follow up:

04/08/2008 – After 1 year of treatment with Veterinary Immune Tabs as an adjuvant therapy, the lymphosarcoma is in complete remission. Ivan weighs 110 lbs and exhibits significant improvement in overall health. See the photos below.

Patient: Sallie Age/Sex/Breed: 7-year-old Pomeranian mix

Prior History

Sallie is a 7-year-old Pomeranian mix. Her previous veterinarian first examined her in May ’07. She had a history of chronic ear disease, chronic periodontal disease, and constant paw licking. Her prior vaccine status was recorded as current. She initially responded well to a low-dose oral steroid/antihistamine combination medication. A re-examination in December 2007 revealed a progressive otitis externa and generalized itching. A dental prophylaxis and biopsy of the ear flaps were scheduled.

Diagnostics:

A Tissue Biopsy of the ear revealed a condition called Cell-Poor Vascularitis. This is an ischemic, immune-mediated dermatopathy.

Therapy:

Pentoxyphylline (Trental) therapy was started on 2/08. The initial response was fair. New ulcerated lesions of the feet and face developed. The addition of injectable corticosteroids seems to help the dermal inflammatory response.

Follow-up: Immune-Mediated Ischemic Dermatopathy

12/08 – The pentoxifylline and corticosteroid therapy was providing a declining response. It was decided to take another course of treatment.

02/10/09 – At that time, we started the Vet Immune Professional Tabs along with hypoallergenic canned food. Within two weeks, she began showing decreased facial and ear-flap inflammation. The pentoxifylline had been previously discontinued, and the long-term corticosteroids were tapered down and stopped.

03/10/09 – Sallie is gaining weight, feeling perkier, and getting a healthier hair coat. Most importantly, her extremely painful, irritated, and scarred ear flaps are markedly improved without any topical therapy. She still has some mild, ongoing, itchy dermatitis.

Chi Chi Age/Sex/Breed: 1-year-old spayed female Chihuahua

Prior History:

07/29/09 First presented for neurological signs, vomiting, and enteritis, and had recently been spayed and vaccinated. Rimadyl had previously been prescribed and improved after stopping the Rimadyl.

Recent History:

08/17/10 Presented for annual physical and had noticeable discomfort in both ear flaps with cracking, scabs, bleeding, and disfigured borders. Vital signs were healthy.

Diagnostics:

Biopsies were unavailable. Suspected causes are vaccine-induced vasculitis/vasculopathy, immune-mediated ischemic dermatitis, and idiopathic ischemic vasculitis.

Therapy:

08/17/10 – Started Ramaekers Veterinary Immune Tabs for Immune-Mediated Ischemic Dermatitis.

Traditional Therapy:

NOT USED. It would have included some of the following: doxycycline/niacinamide combination, Immunosuppressive drugs: pentoxifylline, topical tacrolimus, oral cyclosporine, and topical and oral prednisolone.

Follow Up:

11/01/10 – Chi Chi’s ear flaps are markedly improved. The discomfort and scabs are gone, and healthy hair growth is showing.

Patient: Princess, a 5-year-old female spayed cocker mix

History:

Chronic skin disease for about one year.

Physical Findings:

Redness, swelling, scale, cracking, crusts, hair loss, erosions, and PAIN of the muzzle, eyelids, ear flaps, foot pads, and tail.

Diagnostics:

Diagnosed by a dermatologist as having an Immune-mediated Ear Flap & Tail Vasculitis.

12/28/10 Notice mild swelling and depigmentation around eyelids and muzzle; Ulceration and hair loss of the Tail; Constantly bleeding Right ear flap; Pre-therapy: The ear margins are swelling, along with erosions, crusts, and scaling. The Ear Flaps are very painful.

Therapy:

She started Veterinary Immune Tabs on 12/28/10 and showed improvement within 2 weeks. The owner was also instructed to start a novel protein diet at that time.

04/11/11 Right Ear Flap. Four months into therapy, Earflap borders continue to heal—no pain, minimal scaling or redness. Tail: good hair regrowth, no bleeding, and healed ulcers.

After just three weeks on the Veterinary Immune Tabs, we saw a marked improvement in her condition. There was good hair regrowth, decreased pain and swelling, and healing crusts and erosions. Her owners were very happy with her progress!

Update:

Just 3 1/2 months into therapy, Princess continues to improve and feels excellent. What good natural immune modulation Vet-I-Tabs can accomplish with these difficult immune-mediated skin conditions is incredible.

Update: 02/22/2015

Princess is alive and doing well. Her ear flap disease is well-controlled. She did eventually need to have the end of her tail amputated due to damaged vascular beds. She continues to be maintained at a low dose with veterinary immune tabs and a tiny amount of an oral corticosteroid.

FIBROMYXOSARCOMA KEY POINTS:

Patient: Bear

Age/Sex/Breed: 13-year-old M/C Retriever

Prior History:

At their previous veterinarian, a Spindle cell tumor was removed from the left flank in 08/2005. The second surgical excision on 10/2007 of a left paralumbar mass was determined to be a Myxoid Nerve Sheath tumor. Numerous widespread SQ masses. Prior blood profiles WNL.

Current History:

Presented at our office for a 3rd opinion on tumor growth. Vital signs were WNL. A large, multi-lobulated mass (4cm X 3 cm) is growing in the left paralumbar area. There were also numerous, widespread SQ masses. There is a long history of ear disease with some hotspots.

Diagnostics: Fibromyxosarcoma

02/05/08 – Blood profile & U/A WNL. Fine needle aspirates of 15 tumor sites were performed. Chest & abdominal x-rays-WNL. All FNAs were either lipomas or sebaceous cysts. The tumor in question was read out as a Spindle cell tumor.

Therapy:

02/05/08 – I started the Veterinary Immune Tabs due to the previous history. We also suggested a consultation with a board-certified surgeon and/or oncologist.

03/28/08 – We surgically removed the tumor in the left paralumbar area. A post-surgical biopsy revealed a fibromyxosarcoma with a low-grade malignancy that did extend to the surgical borders. The surgical site appropriately healed. Again, the owner declined an oncology consult or radiation therapy.

Follow up:

07/14/08 – The left lumbar mass has regrown, measuring 8cm X 4.5cm. At this point, we increased the dose of the Veterinary Immune Tabs and are following the case. Bear is physically in excellent condition. We will continue to follow up on this case and provide updates.

Assessment—In a dog with a history of recurrent ear disease and hotspots, I would have definitely started the Veterinary Immune Tabs years ago. The chronic skin issues suggest to me an underlying immune dysfunction that warrants proactive Natural Immunotherapy. In my experience over the past six years of using this supplement, I’ve seen many situations where we have shrunken and/or markedly slowed the progression of tumors. We also tend to have a very positive effect on patients with recurrent infections and allergies to the skin.

Update:

Bear’s owners were very happy that he could have another 2 years of Quality life while keeping the Fibromyxosarcoma tumor in check with the Veterinary Immune Tabs.

Age/Sex/Breed: 11-year-old spayed female Golden Retriever.

Prior History:

01/31/12 – Sofie was presented with a 2.0cm X 2.0cm raised, bluish-red dermal mass on her right forearm just below her elbow.

Diagnostics: Canine Hemangioma

01/31/12 – A fine needle aspirate was performed, but was inconclusive due to hemodilution.

02/2/2012 – A wedge biopsy was performed and confirmed a hemangioma

Therapy:

02/2/12 – Veterinary Immune Tabs were started at four tabs per day.

Follow up:

02/14/12 – The tumor had enlarged to 3.0cm X 2.5cm, but the tumor seemed much more freely movable, and the peripheral borders were more distinct.

02/29/12 – The tumor continues to regress to 2.5cm X 2.5cm and is more freely movable, softer, and less sensitive for the patient. The bluish-red color is fading.

05/07/12 -The tumor is now more freely movable, with the ability to place my fingers completely beneath the tumor. Surgical removal will be much easier, leading to complete primary surgical closure.

Summary:

• Natural Immunotherapy for tumor growths is always my frontline therapy after getting a confirmed diagnosis.
• I predict that someday, tumor regression therapy will be accepted as the Standard of Care in veterinary medicine before surgical intervention for tumors.

Patient: Melody

Age/Sex/Breed: 10-year-old German Shepherd

History:

“Melody” is a 10-year-old German Shepherd presented with acute lameness in the right carpus (wrist). Her general appearance was that of a chronically ill patient with a very unthrifty, dull hair coat, significant periodontal infection, and non-febrile, with all other physical findings within normal limits. There was no observed history of trauma. Even slight palpation of the carpus would elicit a bite response from her. The swelling around the wrist was golf ball-sized with a nickel-sized area of granulation tissue in the center.

Diagnostics:

Radiographs were taken, but the owner declined other diagnostic tests at this time. The radiographic interpretation revealed an inflammatory reaction and lysis (bone destruction) in the area of the attachment of the medial collateral ligaments. Joint effusion and degenerative radiocarpal (wrist) joint changes were noted. These findings suggest both an acute and chronic condition in this location. 9/19/08 – Vet Immune Professional Tabs were started with piroxicam and omega-3 fatty acids.

Follow-up: The owners noticed a marked improvement in her appearance within two weeks.

10/15/08 – A re-exam one month later showed that Melody’s general appearance had improved remarkably! There was a 100% turnaround in her activity level, and her hair coat had that “show dog” shine & feel. Despite the persistent swelling around her wrist, she was completely pain-free during the examination. At this time, the Immune therapy regimen was changed slightly. Before this time, Melody was taking the Vet Immune Professional Tabs daily. We decreased her to a maintenance dose of 4 days on and three days off weekly.

1/26/09 – Follow-up radiographs revealed no significant progression of the destructive (lytic) changes. Melody showed no lameness, and the owners are thrilled with her recovery.

5/21/09 – Doing very well. No lameness or pain on palpation. We’re continuing the Vet Immune Professional Tabs maintenance dose and piroxicam every other day. Follow-up x-rays showed continued remodeling and bone regeneration of the previously identified suspicious bony defect.
