She’s Gained A Little Weight

Calico belonged to a friend of mine who passed away. After his death, his family asked me to take his cat. She’s gained a little weight since moving in with me.

After my friend died, his sister moved to Arizona, so the cat traveled with her in a trailer to Mesa, Arizona. 07/3/08 – A CBC revealed a marked pancytopenia (bone marrow suppression). Blood chemistries and electrolytes were within normal limits, and a mild increase in blood protein was observed.

Follow up:

07/10/08 – Recheck exam and follow-up CBC revealed an unbelievable bone marrow response to the combined antibiotic and immune therapy. The owner reports that Maze is feeling much better. Assessment:

Patient: Smokey

Age/Sex/Breed: 7-year-old male neutered DLH (Domestic Long Haired)

History:

07/21/08 – Presented for marked lethargy. The physical exam was unremarkable, except for mildly pale gums and an increased respiratory rate. His temperature was 101.5. Some flea dirt was noted, and prior FeLV & FIV testing was negative. Leukemia, Rabies, and FVRCP vaccines are all current.

Diagnostics:

A Complete cell count was initially performed. Profound pancytopenia (characterized by very low white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets) was discovered. No obvious blood parasites were noted on the blood slides. The owner declined further diagnostic procedures.

07/21/08 – RBC 1.30 million WBC 1.50 thousand platelets 20 thousand

Therapy: Pancytopenia Domestic Long Haired

Vet Immune Professional Tabs, antibiotics, and prednisone were started.

Follow up:

08/4/08:

  • A recheck exam revealed that Smokey had made significant improvements. A Complete Cell Count was repeated and revealed a completely normal cell count.
  • RBC 9.55 million, WBC 8.85 thousand, platelets 432 thousand. Possible causes of this condition include a viral infection, toxin ingestion, or protozoan (blood parasite) infection.

Assessment:

This type of presentation is a fantastic response in a non-febrile patient with bone marrow involvement. It would have to be assumed that the immunotherapy, not the antibiotics and prednisone, could stimulate the marrow response. Research in humans and rats has demonstrated that the ingredients found in Vet Immune Professional Tabs have a positive effect on bone marrow precursor cells. We have often observed this type of response in recent years.

Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma

MALIGNANT FIBROUS HISTIOCYTOMA KEY POINTS:

Patient: Tigger

Age/Sex/Breed: 4-year-old DSH

History:

12/13/2006 – Tigger presented with a 2.5 cm SQ mass on the dorsal aspect of the left carpus.

Diagnostics:

A fine needle aspirate was performed, and the results suggested a malignant mesenchymal tumor.

Therapy:

12/18/2006 – The owner elected to start one Veterinary Immune Tab daily with surgical debulking of the mass scheduled for 12/26.

Surgery:

Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma
Tigger immediately Post Op

An elliptical incision was made using a CO2 laser to remove a mass measuring 2.0 cm in length, 1.5 cm in width, and 1.0 cm in thickness. Due to the mass’s location, Dr. Burlingame was unable to obtain wide and deep margins. The extensor tendons of fingers 2, 3, and 4 passed directly through the mass, which was also firmly attached to the joint capsules of the carpus. The extensor tendons were cut both proximal and distal to the mass and were then “tacked” to the remaining lateral and medial digital extensors. After the mass was resected, the tumor bed was lasered three times with a rotary head to minimize the risk of leaving behind cancer cells. Skin closure was minimal, resulting in an open surgical wound measuring 2.2 cm by 2.2 cm.

Routine post-surgical antibiotic therapy, pain management, and extended splinting & bandaging followed by the continuance of Vet Immune Professional Tabs. Post-surgical biopsy results revealed a Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma with tumor cells at most margins. Current in vitro research shows an improvement in natural killer activity of around 400%. Our research on vaccine-induced antibody production reveals a 429% increase in B-cell lymphocyte activity. The use of Vet Immune Professional Tabs enables a balanced approach to fighting cancer by activating both the cell-mediated and antibody arms of the immune system.

Follow up:

05/9/2007 – At a follow-up evaluation, the surgery site was completely healed, and Tigger had nearly complete function of the limb with only limited decreases in range of motion. Currently, Tigger is doing very well, with no indication of tumor regrowth.

History:

11/1/2002 – Mombasa was presented with severe inflammation and erosion of the upper lip. Previous treatments included high doses of prednisone, which induced hair loss and gradual deterioration of the lip tissue.

01/17/2003 – Within two months, there were marked improvements, including significantly reduced inflammation and swelling.
